Badajoz hosts the Environment Week, transforming into a vast learning classroom for sustainability. This initiative aims to enrich the environmental knowledge of hundreds of children in the region through interactive activities focused on recycling, biodiversity, and sustainable use of natural resources.
Badajoz: Sustainability Classroom During Environment Week
Organized by the Diputación de Badajoz, this initiative aims to instill environmental values in the young, combining dynamic learning with the natural spaces of Extremadura. It seeks to promote ecological awareness through practical proposals involving recycled materials and local contexts.
For three days, from June 3 to 5, about 500 schoolchildren aged eight to twelve will participate in various activities in Badajoz. The events will take place in emblematic locations such as the Hospital Centro Vivo and the rural complex La Cocosa, offering unique learning experiences.
The educational activities will cover crucial topics such as biodiversity, recycling, circular economy, and energy transition. At the Hospital Centro Vivo, students will discover urban sustainability practices and necessary adaptations to face contemporary environmental challenges.
Meanwhile, at the La Cocosa Training Center, the focus will be on the rich biodiversity and values of the dehesa extremeña, one of the region’s most significant ecosystems. Young people will learn about the conservation of these territories and the importance of the responsible use of resources.
A distinctive component of this program is the use of reused materials in many workshops. As explained by Juan José González from Aventurex, the company in charge of the activities, this practical approach aims to instill concepts of circular economy and waste reduction in students’ daily lives.
Furthermore, the Diputación de Badajoz emphasizes the need to integrate environmental education into the training of new generations to face future climate challenges. The exhibition ‘The Energy That Drives Us’ will be available from June 2 to 21 at the Hospital Centro Vivo, offering an overview of renewable energies and local energy transition.
This educational event not only reinforces environmental awareness in Badajoz but also highlights the importance of a sustainable future. Through the combination of practical workshops and participatory education, it aims to create a community more aware and committed to the environment.
