Species Reintroduction in Santa Fe: Monkeys, Magpies, Turtles, and Alligators

Thanks to an agreement between the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change of Santa Fe and the Ministry of Energy and Environment of Mendoza, the Rescue, Research, and Fauna Interpretation Center (Criif) “La Esmeralda” works on the reintroduction of numerous specimens of various species, including howler monkeys, common magpies, water turtles, native caimans, talking parrots, red-faced guans, and nanday parrots.

Medical and Behavioral Evaluations

The team of specialists will carry out medical and behavioral evaluations to determine the conditions of each animal and their potential reintroduction into natural habitats.

  • Howler Monkeys: Good health status, absence of tuberculosis, planned reintroduction in a few weeks.
  • Common Magpie: Health and behavior assessment in progress, possible release in the short term.
  • Water Turtles and Caimans: Ongoing evaluation, possible reintroduction in the coming weeks.
  • Talking Parrots, Red-faced Guans, and Nanday Parrots: Psittacosis tests and behavior analysis, release planned for the fall of 2025.
