The University of Buenos Aires (UBA) has received an important international recognition by standing out in the QS World University Rankings: Sustainability 2025 as the only higher education institution in Argentina that includes environmental issues in its programs.
International Recognition
QS Quacquarelli Symonds, a leading organization in higher education analysis, assessed more than 1,740 universities from 107 countries in the 2025 edition of its ranking.
This significant increase compared to previous editions reflects the growing interest in sustainability in higher education.
Regional Context and Environmental Education
In Latin America, Brazil leads with 42 universities in the ranking, highlighting the University of Sao Paulo (USP). Mexico increased its presence with 19 institutions, and Chile stood out in equity with universities such as the Pontifical Catholic University, the University of Chile, and the University of Concepción.
Argentina has 11 universities in the ranking, but only UBA managed to position itself among the top 900 in sustainability, ranking 378th.
UBA Performance and Evaluation Methodology
UBA stood out especially in the category of environmental education, essential to address current and future ecological challenges.
The classification is based on performance in three categories:
- Environmental Impact: Environmental sustainability, environmental education, and research.
- Social Impact: Equality, knowledge exchange, education impact, employability, and health and well-being.
- Governance: Ethics, hiring practices, transparency, and decision-making.
Global Ranking
On a global level, the University of Toronto in Canada leads the ranking, followed by ETH Zurich (Switzerland), Lund University (Sweden), and the University of California, Berkeley (UCB) in the United States.
