Volkswagen Argentina has taken a groundbreaking step in its environmental commitment by operating its Pacheco Industrial Center with 100% green electrical energy.
This advancement is part of the global strategy Way to Zero, whose goal is to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.
“Celebrating our 45 years in Argentina with this achievement reaffirms our responsibility towards environment and sustainable development of the country”, stated Marcellus Puig, President and CEO of Volkswagen Group Argentina.
Renewable energy and emissions reduction
The electricity used in Pacheco Plant comes from:
- Las Lomas Solar Park (La Rioja).
- Pampa del Infierno (Chaco).
- PEPE II Wind Farm (Bahía Blanca).
Thanks to this supply, over the next decade, the emission of 120 thousand tons of CO₂ will be avoided, which is equivalent to the annual energy consumption of 48,000 households or “disconnecting” a city of over 100,000 inhabitants for a year.
Green electrical energy and waste management
The Volkswagen plants in Pacheco and Córdoba have ISO 14.001:2015 (environmental management) and ISO 50.001:2018 (energy efficiency) certifications, reflecting their commitment to the responsible use of resources.
Among its main technological improvements, the following stand out:
- Lighting automation.
- High-performance electric motors.
- Advanced compressed air systems.
- Natural lighting in production areas.
- Next-generation cooling equipment (VRV).
Simultaneously, the company has strengthened its waste management policy, promoting source separation and material recycling such as:
- Paper, cardboard, and plastics.
- Wood, batteries, and bottle caps.
- Waste with high calorific value.
During 2024, recycling rates reached 79% in Pacheco and an impressive 98% in Córdoba, consolidating its leadership in sustainability.
