According to the experts of the Cycle 25 Prediction Panel, led by NASA and NOAA, Solar Cycle 25 activity will peak in 2025. This will open a window of unique opportunities to observe the Northern Lights in all their splendor.

Solar Cycles and Geomagnetic Activity

Solar cycles, which last approximately 11 years, include periods of calm and high intensity. The current solar cycle began after the solar minimum in December 2019 and has since increased geomagnetic activity.

“Solar cannibal” storms have resulted in Northern Lights in unusual places. In 2025, solar flares and coronal mass ejections will be more frequent, promising impressive displays, according to NASA scientist Kelly Korreck.

Destinations to Observe the Northern Lights in 2025

Europe: Finnish Lapland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden will be the ideal destinations to observe the dance of the Northern Lights. Norway, in particular, is preparing for the increase in Northern Lights. Pål Brekke, head of space research at the Norwegian Space Center, states that the sun is heading towards a new solar maximum in 2025, offering excellent conditions for the Northern Lights.

Northern Canada and Alaska: Yellowknife, in the Northwest Territories of Canada, is one of the best places to observe the Northern Lights. The snowy mountains and endless forests of these regions will be ideal settings to enjoy the green auroras and occasionally, pink ones.

Where Can You See the Southern Lights in Argentina?

Tierra del Fuego, located at the southern tip of Argentina, is a privileged place to observe the Southern Lights. The combination of dark skies and impressive natural landscapes creates the perfect conditions to enjoy this natural phenomenon.

In Ushuaia, the Southern Lights can be seen during certain times of the year. Places like Tierra del Fuego National Park, Lapataia Bay, and other peripheral areas are recommended for observation, especially on clear and moonless nights.

The best time to see the Southern Lights in Ushuaia and Tierra del Fuego, Argentina, is during the winter months, specifically between April and September. During this period, the atmospheric and astronomical conditions are more favorable for observing this natural phenomenon.
