In a challenging world, the company reinforces technological innovation by basing its sustainability strategy on driving transformation programs focused on innovation and creating value in its businesses and prioritizing five action axes.
Newsan, the leading group in Argentina in the manufacturing, importing, commercialization, and distribution of consumer electronics and appliances, worked last year on the analysis and integration of processes and practices to strengthen and renew its strategy of technological innovation based on sustainability, taking as a basis the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda and global trends.
The company’s sustainability strategy with technological innovation is a roadmap that guides the responsible and transparent management of business units based on five priority action axes: Governance; Value Chain Management; People’s Well-being; Climate Action; and Community Development with a focus on Newsan IN, the company’s triple impact business based on the circular and social economy, the knowledge economy, and social investment management.
“We started this journey with a comprehensive analysis of our practices in all locations with the aim of enhancing technological innovation and entrepreneurial culture in each new project,” said Luis Galli, CEO of Newsan.
“We are convinced that sustainability is a fundamental pillar of business success,” stated Marcela Cominelli, Senior Manager of Legal, Public Affairs, and Sustainability. “That’s why we integrate ESG criteria (Environment, Social, and Governance) in all our operations and work to create shared value for all our stakeholders.”
One of the milestones in management was the strengthening of the Digital Gen. With over 150 digital initiatives and projects, Newsan promoted collaborative work through a common agenda. “Digital transformation allowed us to achieve significant results thanks to automation and the adoption of technological innovation,” Galli stated. Thus, we strengthened our Digital Gen not only in operations but also in internal teams and in the communities where we operate.
The transformation of the work experience was deepened to promote well-being, diversity, and inclusion in workspaces and generate value for the over 9,000 people who make up the teams. Work was done with training and protocols for the eradication and prevention of violence, as well as the expansion of the triple impact business model Newsan IN, to promote employability and training in trades in communities with teams of over 100 people in production and sales units. One of the objectives is the development of technical skills in young people and awakening interest and aptitudes in STEM: technology, electronics, programming, mathematics, and 3D printing.
Another important focus for Newsan is the knowledge economy. The company integrates its technological advances with training and learning tools for the future. With over 65,000 hours of internal training and 1,200 students in the Newsan Olympics, contributions were made to training and the development of opportunities, as well as the search for and creation of sustainable solutions for businesses and communities.
Environmental Management with technological innovation
The company operates in Tierra del Fuego under multiple environmental regulations that promote the treatment and recycling of waste and materials, such as the Environmental Law of Tierra del Fuego, Provincial Law 105 on Hazardous Waste, Minimum Budget Law on Urban Solid Waste Management, and Resolution 258/21 on Valuable Waste Operators, among others. A formal procedure was developed for the classification, storage, treatment, and final disposal of materials and waste, focused on reduction, reuse, recovery, and recycling.
In the air conditioner production lines, 20% of recycled inputs are used, corresponding to product defense and reutilization of boxes or mockups.
89% of hazardous and non-hazardous waste was successfully recycled, including materials such as cardboard, plastic, sheet metal, and aluminum.
Compared to 2022, there was a 37% reduction in waste destined for final disposal in Ushuaia. Under the Newsan IN approach, more than 74,300 units and products have been refurbished since the start of the program in 2016, with 9,056 units alone in 2023. A 60% recovery rate plus 16,000 kilos of reconditioned scrap, and over 200,000 kilos have been responsibly managed since the start of the program were achieved.
