The province of Santa Cruz has some of the most popular tourist attractions in the country, such as San Carlos de Bariloche. However, it is not the only destination to visit or explore, as you can also take advantage of the days at Lago del Desierto.
This natural refuge, located in the middle of Patagonia, is surrounded by imposing mountains and lenga forests, making it a special place for those seeking adventure and tranquility. This corner of Santa Cruz is a true hidden treasure that offers the opportunity to discover landscapes of indescribable beauty.
In this place, nature and adventure lovers can take long walks along nearby trails, as well as enjoy sport fishing or relax in front of the crystal-clear waters, which provide the ideal climate for it.
Moreover, the most adventurous visitors have the possibility to explore the Huemul Glacier, which can only be reached through trekking. This excursion is only for those in good physical condition, as the journey to get there is quite demanding. On the other hand, you can take the opportunity to spot animals like huemuls, condors, and other species, as this place is special for observing the local fauna.
How to get to Lago del Desierto?
To reach this lake, visitors must take Provincial Route No. 23 from El Chaltén, heading north, bordering the Río de las Vueltas. This road not only allows access to Lago del Desierto but also offers spectacular panoramic views, including dense and mountainous forests.
This road only prepares tourists for what their stay at the lake will be like, as although there are no gas stations or shops in the area, it is possible to enjoy a viewpoint with impressive views and a private camping area to rest.
