The tourism season in El Impenetrable has already begun. The Government of Chaco, the National Park, and the Rewilding Argentina Foundation have worked together with local communities to conserve the unique ecosystems and establish it as a natural destination.
They recently announced the launch of the season and presented the novelties.
Tourism in El Impenetrable: adventures for the season
The Chaco’s Impenetrable is a biodiversity sanctuary. It shelters forests of carob trees, holy sticks, and quebrachos; as well as grasslands, lagoons, and endangered species.

This is the case of the armadillo, giant anteater, tapir, the maned wolf, and the jaguar.
To discover El Impenetrable, both the national park and its access gates and neighboring villages offer many options.
The “Entrepreneurs for Nature” offer guided tourism experiences, such as hiking through the forest and river tours, natural wool dyeing and weaving workshops, and regional gastronomy.
“The impressive Bermejo River represents the northern boundary of the national park and dazzles visitors with abundant wildlife shows and unforgettable sunsets, experienced in kayaking adventures or boat rides with a local guide,” describe the authorities.
To explore the forest, the Impenetrable Trail offers an extensive and stunning route along the Bermejito River, with a shelter for overnight stays.

At the other end of the national park, the Jungle Trail offers mammal and bird watching in a gallery forest circuit on the banks of the Bermejo River. In the village of La ArmonÃa, you can also rent bicycles and take a kayak ride on the Bermejito River.
Gastronomic options
Gastronomy is an important part of the experience. The cooks of El Impenetrable share the flavors of the Chaco forest, “prepared with local products, such as carob flour, mistol, and chañar,” in their homes or in the village squares. They serve as a local meeting point for lunches and dinners.

On the other hand, artisans in the area share the ancestral techniques they use to produce their woven or wooden pieces, in workshops of approximately two hours that they offer in their homes accompanied by a typical snack.
For lodging, you can choose between several options: glamping, camping, neighbors’ houses that offer accommodation, or the “dormis” at the new “Mountain Shelter.”
It is an intermediate option equipped with beds, dry toilet, and shower that will be inaugurated for this season.
Conservation, nature tourism, and community well-being
In the El Impenetrable National Park, rewilding projects are implemented, a strategy of ecological restoration to recover natural ecosystems.
Work has been done on the reintroduction and recovery of native species, such as the giant otter, the jaguar, and the yabotà turtle.
“The forest is essential for the economic development of the region,” the organization states.
“The standing presence of the white carob tree (Neltuma alba), locally known as ‘the tree‘ (the rest are called ‘sticks’), is key for wildlife and local residents due to its multiple benefits: it regulates temperatures, improves water management, fertilizes the soil, and provides resources such as food, shade, firewood, medicine, and honey,” they stated.
Thus, by visiting this destination, travelers promote the strengthening of a new economy and a virtuous cycle between conservation and local development, where natural ecosystems with abundant wildlife drive new economies based on wildlife observation.
