How to Get to Jericoacoara
Jericoacoara is located about 300 kilometers northwest of Fortaleza, the capital of the state of Ceará. There are two main access routes: by air and by road. The Jericoacoara Regional Airport (JJD), located in Cruz, receives direct flights from São Paulo, Recife, and Fortaleza, facilitating the entry of national and international tourists. From there, the journey to the village takes approximately an hour by 4×4 vehicle.
For those departing from Fortaleza, it can be reached in about 6 hours by road, combining paved roads and sandy stretches. The most common route passes through Jijoca de Jericoacoara, where the conventional vehicle is left behind, and the journey continues in a van or buggy, as access to the park is restricted to authorized vehicles to protect the ecosystem.
Entry to Jericoacoara is controlled: visitors must pay an environmental preservation fee, valid for a specific period. This system aims to balance tourist growth with the conservation of the natural environment. Getting to “Jeri” involves a small logistical challenge, but every minute of the journey is rewarded by a destination that seems suspended between the sea, the wind, and the silence of the dunes.
