Saint Nicholas expands its recycling program and promotes waste separation throughout the city.

The municipality of San Nicolás announced the extension of its urban recycling plan, which will now reach all neighborhoods of the city.

The new stage aims to promote waste separation at the source and strengthen differentiated collection. This contributes to a more efficient and sustainable waste management.

The initiative, which was already being implemented in some areas, will now be expanded to the entire community so that residents correctly separate recyclable waste from non-recyclable waste.

How will the recycling plan be implemented in San Nicolás?

The differentiated collection system will operate on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. On those days, residents should only put out recyclable waste, such as:

  • Plastics

  • Paper and cardboard

  • Glass

  • Cans

  • Clean Styrofoam

On Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays, traditional collection for organic and non-recyclable waste will continue. The municipality emphasized the importance of respecting the assigned days to ensure the program’s success.

Environmental education and citizen commitment

To reinforce community participation, the municipality carries out environmental awareness campaigns, through informative talks and graphic material distributed in community centers, schools, and social networks.

“The commitment of each resident is essential to reduce the amount of waste that ends up in the landfill and to make the most of materials that can be recycled,” stated the Secretariat of Services and Sustainable City.

The benefits of urban recycling

Separating waste at the source not only improves the efficiency of the collection system but also:

  • Reduces environmental impact

  • Decreases soil and water pollution

  • Prolongs the life of the landfill

  • Generates employment opportunities in the recycling sector

In addition, the recovered material is sent to Eco Point, the municipal recycling center, where it is sorted and reintegrated into the production cycle.

With this measure, San Nicolás is moving towards an integrated management of urban solid waste based on the principles of the circular economy.

The municipality invited all citizens to actively participate in the program and be part of the change towards a cleaner, more orderly, and environmentally respectful city.
