San Juan: Rawson municipality advances in environmental management by recovering over 52,000 kilograms of waste in one year

The **municipality of Rawson** has been a reference in **San Juan in environmental management** by implementing **differentiated waste collection**, marking a **milestone in provincial policy**.

A year ago, it launched the program **“Reciclamos”**, promoting **classification and selective collection of recyclable materials** among residents.

Impact and community participation

In its first **12 months**, the environmental management program managed to **involve more than 45,000 people**, covering key areas such as:

  • República del Líbano.
  • Paula Albarracín de Sarmiento.
  • Mendoza, Comandante Cabot and Conector Sur.
  • Doctor Ortega and other urban sectors.

To this network, **large generators of recyclable waste** also joined, such as **SICA** and the **Mercado Concentrador de Frutas y Hortalizas**.

Operation of the collection system

On **Mondays, from 7 to 8 in the morning**, residents take out their **clean and dry recyclables**, including:

  • Glass, plastic, cans, and metals.
  • Cardboard, placed in white boxes or bags.

The **regular collection service** continues to operate the rest of the week, but recyclables are only **picked up on the assigned day**.

Results and expansion of the environmental management program

From the **Department of Public Works and Services**, they confirmed that in the **first year**, more than 52,000 kilos of **recyclable materials** have been collected.

The project aims not only to **reduce environmental impact**, but also to **educate and raise awareness** about **responsible waste management**.
