Authorities in Misiones managed to arrest two Brazilian poachers who were circulating in the Yabotí Biosphere Reserve.
Park rangers caught the men in the act of illegally entering the protected area and later, the Jungle Operations Group (GOS), Central Zone, of the Ministry of Ecology and Renewable Natural Resources, detained them.
This procedure is part of the permanent monitoring and guarding actions carried out by the province to address the pressure on the ecosystems of the Misiones jungle.
The jungle operation that led to the arrest of two poachers
According to authorities, the discovery was made during a routine patrol in one of the sectors of the reserve, internationally recognized for its ecological and cultural value.
The park rangers spotted two armed individuals who, upon realizing the inspection, could not evade scrutiny.
The offenders were carrying a shotgun and items used as bait to attract wildlife. Following established protocols, the GOS team detained the poachers and seized the weapon and supplies. Subsequently, both were handed over to the Justice system, which will determine the penalties.

What the reserve is like, a globally valuable protected area
The Yabotí Biosphere Reserve is one of the main refuges for the Upper Paraná Atlantic Forest, considered one of the most threatened biomes on the planet. It is part of the UNESCO World Network of Biosphere Reserves, which recognizes its ecological and cultural value.
In this environment, emblematic and endangered species such as the jaguar, the tapir, the giant anteater, and numerous birds, reptiles, and amphibians coexist. Poaching directly threatens these populations, disrupting natural balances.
This specific event also highlights a common issue in Misiones, transboundary poaching. Due to its proximity to Paraguay and Brazil, poachers often take advantage, as local media point out, of unauthorized crossings and dense vegetation to evade controls.
Furthermore, the fact that they were carrying shotguns and bait indicates a planned and deliberate action, which would aggravate the offense.
Ongoing actions to protect the Misiones jungle
The Ministry of Ecology of Misiones continuously carries out patrols, fixed controls, monitoring with camera traps, and ground and river operations in provincial reserves, parks, and biological corridors.
The goal is to prevent and punish environmental crimes and preserve ecosystems in the face of increasing human pressure.
The swift detection of the poachers in Yabotí prevented the death of animals and sent a clear message of control and surveillance. In areas of exceptional biodiversity like this reserve, each preventive action directly contributes to the conservation of vulnerable species and the maintenance of the balance in the Misiones jungle.
