Planting questions since more than three decades ago, the agro-industrial model is advancing with increasing intensity in Argentina.
Food production has increased, yes. But it has also deepened: inequalities, deforestation of native forests, displacement of peasant communities, loss of biodiversity, soil degradation, and alteration of the climate.
Planting questions in the face of the evidence that is visible: monumental fires, more frequent floods, and territories becoming increasingly vulnerable.
As the outlook darkens for future generations, clear questions arise: Are we producing at the expense of future generations? Until when the unsustainable? Is it possible to change agriculture without changing culture? Are we experiencing the exhaustion of a paradigm or a zeitgeist of thinking-feeling?
What can we do from the global south to influence a responsible North responsible for the bulk of the impacts? How can we relate to people and nature differently? How can we move from a competitive, utilitarian, individualistic, and profit-obsessed model to a more fraternal, collaborative, loving, and focused on the common good?
How do we plant another agriculture?
Against the dominant model, there are many alternatives throughout the country seeking to regenerate rather than extract and exploit: organic, biodynamic, agroecological, and regenerative agriculture are part of a diverse movement that proposes to recover the connection with the land, respect natural cycles, and ensure more nutritious and healthy food.
In this direction, the alliance between Zafrán, Honest Recipes, and the Germinar Civil Association became a concrete commitment to another way of feeding ourselves and coexisting with nature.
In 2022, Zafrán joined the international network 1% For the Planet, allocating part of its revenue to Germinar. This contribution made it possible to start an educational, demonstrative, and productive agroforestry project in Escobar (Buenos Aires).
Today, a food forest is growing there, combining native and fruit trees. It serves as a Learning Center for small producers, families, and communities. It is a living space, a quest, that reminds us that what is real—and possible—is to produce while caring for what sustains us.
In 2024, the initiative of Zafrán and Germinar was recognized with the International Partnership Award at the global 1% for the Planet Summit in San Diego, USA. It was the first time that an Argentine company and an NGO received this recognition.
Do you want to join the regenerative movement?
Regeneration is also an invitation to observe the rhythms and creativity of nature to inspire our ways of organizing and coexisting. Thus, the possibility of a different future is outlined, where it is not about extracting or imitating, but about engaging in conversation with life and planting questions.
As part of the celebrations for Pachamama and Children’s Day in August, Zafranito —Zafrán’s organic line designed for children— along with Germinar, invite you to two free activities for the whole family.
The idea is to continue encouraging the regenerative spirit: to be grateful, sow future, remember that the truth lies in the roots, in curiosity, play, and shared laughter.
Regenerating in Community
The Regenerating in Community Program manages events and agreements with local organizations to increase citizen participation in nature protection.
On this occasion, neighbors from the Las Chacras de Escobar neighborhood invite you to the 3rd planting stage in the Spinetta Biocorridor started in 2024.
The initiative, driven by local nurseries with the support of the Municipality of Escobar, has already planted 130 trees. In this session, 70 more will be added, strengthening a biological corridor that brings life and resilience to the territory.
We recommend bringing a hat or cap, comfortable clothing and shoes, gloves, a shovel, and a water bottle.
Saturday 23/8
10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Meeting point: America and Europa Street, Las Chacras, Escobar.
Tree Day at the Pilar Reserve
Friday 30 and Saturday 31 August
Pilar Natural Reserve
The end of the month will be marked by the planting of native species in a key area of the Luján River Biocorridor. Over 20 years ago, two women with the support of their community set the course for the creation of what we now know as the Pilar Natural Reserve.
For the past 5 years, Germinar has been working with them in controlling invasive exotic species, planting native species, and environmental education. During this weekend, we will continue these actions by adding native plants in areas of Espinal and Riparian Forest.
It will be a community gathering to honor Pachamama and convey to children the value of caring for the diversity of local ecosystems.
