The UNLP’s Veterinary School becomes the first public university in the country to have a computed tomography scanner

A new team of high-complexity computed tomography has been incorporated by the Faculty of Veterinary Sciences of the National University of La Plata (UNLP), marking a milestone as the first of its kind in a public university.

This equipment, currently in the process of installation at the School Hospital, will represent a substantial advancement both for the training of future professionals and for research in the field of diagnostic imaging.

The project was materialized through a collaborative agreement between the Chair of Complementary Diagnostic Methods and Dr. Daniel Farfallini, who is a reference from the company RMVet, specialized in diagnostic imaging for the veterinary sector.

Authorities of Veterinary Sciences of the UNLP

Thanks to this alliance, the start-up of the service will be led by professionals graduated from the same university. The CT scanner will allow detailed studies of the skull, chest, abdomen, spine, and various joints in animals.

Daniel Arias, full professor of the chair, expressed his enthusiasm for this achievement: “Having a CT scanner of this caliber in a public Faculty of Veterinary Sciences is a true collective achievement.”

The specialist also emphasized that the equipment will be essential for solving complex clinical cases in small animals, resulting in an improvement in quality of care and, in turn, allowing for a deeper academic training of the students.

The relevance of scientific advancement at UNLP with the computed tomography

The computed tomography will play a crucial role in the diagnosis and treatment of patients with neurological, oncological, and traumatological pathologies.

Additionally, its incorporation will open new lines of research in the field of veterinary medicine, consolidating a model of cooperation between the School Hospital, the chair, and the company RMVet, with an important scientific and technological projection for the future.

Located at the School Hospital, the equipment will not only allow for the performance of advanced studies in small animals, but will also enhance the formative capacities of UNLP.

The institution has reported that the service will not be exclusive to the university community; its use will also be available to professionals from the private sector who need to refer cases.

Computed tomography, a benefit for the community

In this way, the benefit will extend to patients throughout the region, significantly expanding access to high-complexity diagnostic tools for animal health.

Finally, it was announced that appointment scheduling to use the service is already enabled and can be managed through the WhatsApp number 221 600-1587.
