China advances in one of the most daring energy projects in history: a space solar plant located 36,000 kilometers from the planet.
The initiative seeks to generate clean energy 24 hours a day, without relying on weather or Earth’s natural cycles, marking a milestone in the search for renewable alternatives.
The construction in orbit consists of a macrostructure of solar panels designed to continuously capture energy from the sun.
According to the South China Morning Post, the collected energy will be transformed into microwaves and transmitted to receiving stations on Earth, where it will be converted back into electricity.

The central objective is to harness the sun without the limitations faced by traditional solar plants.
The plant will operate without interference from clouds, storms, or the alternation between day and night, maximizing energy efficiency.
How the development of the space solar plant is progressing
China’s project for a space solar plant will be implemented in stages.
A 10 kW test station is expected to be launched in 2028, with plans to reach 1 MW by 2030.
By 2035, the project should generate 10 MW, and the ultimate goal is to reach 2 GW by 2050.
This amount of energy can supply around 1.5 million homes, considering average consumption.
The structure will have colossal dimensions: around 1 kilometer long in space.
To transport the components to orbit, large-capacity rockets like the Long March-9, currently in development, will be needed.
