Mendoza inaugurates the San Rafael Solar Park and advances in clean energy generation with 140 MW: Genneia’s project

Recently, the Solar Park of San Rafael began operations in Mendoza with 140 MW of its total 180 MW, making it one of the most significant solar developments in the country.

Genneia, the Argentine renewable energy giant responsible for the project, even managed to advance the commissioning of this infrastructure.

Now, the new solar park in San Rafael already supplies clean energy to private clients.

This is another step towards consolidating Mendoza as a strategic hub in the generation of renewable energy.

The San Rafael Solar Park, a large-scale project in southern Mendoza

The new San Rafael Solar Park is located in the district of 25 de Mayo and covers 500 hectares where 400,000 solar panels were installed.

Thanks to these, the park’s production is equivalent to the electric consumption of approximately 135,000 homes.

This high capacity positions it as a benchmark in large-scale solar generation in Argentina.

It should also be noted that the park’s installed capacity will increase by an additional 40 MW during the first quarter of 2026, once it obtains the full commercial authorization.

Genneia’s investment for the San Rafael Solar Park reached USD 180 million, while the total presence of the renewable company in Mendoza adds up to more than USD 400 million.

This is already the third park of the company in the province, allowing it to complete 410 MW of installed capacity aimed at the Renewable Energy Term Market (MATER).

The technical characteristics and scope of the new San Rafael Solar Park

The project incorporates state-of-the-art technology that allows supplying competitive and clean energy to the private sector.

The 400,000 panels distributed on the site operate under the MATER regulatory framework.

This ensures the supply to industrial and commercial clients seeking sustainable energy solutions.

Additionally, during its construction phase, the San Rafael Solar Park generated employment for more than 300 people, boosting the regional economy of southern Mendoza.

The project demanded local resources and strengthened the technical capabilities of the area in renewable energy infrastructure.

In this regard, Jimena Latorre, Minister of Energy and Environment of Mendoza, highlighted: “The commissioning of the San Rafael Solar Park is a key milestone for the energy matrix of Mendoza“.

For the official, these projects are key because they reinforce Mendoza’s “positioning” as a province committed to sustainable development and the attraction of strategic investments.

This advancement consolidates Mendoza as a leader in renewable generation and strengthens synergies between the public and private sectors to optimize the country’s energy system.

The environmental impact and future projection

Photovoltaic development is key for the future because it significantly contributes to the reduction of emissions and the strengthening of the competitiveness of the national production system.

This is because the solar energy generated replaces conventional sources, optimizing the use of energy resources available in the region.

In this regard, Bernardo Andrews, CEO of Genneia, stated: “The commissioning of the San Rafael Solar Park represents a fundamental step in our growth strategy”.

According to the businessman, “this project demonstrates that it is possible to develop large-scale energy infrastructure, with a positive impact on the environment and on regional economies, accompanying the growing demand for competitive energy from the Argentine industry”.

Key data of the San Rafael Solar Park:

  • Current operational capacity: 140 MW (out of 180 MW total)
  • Investment: USD 180 million
  • Installed panels: 400,000 units
  • Area: 500 hectares
  • Supply equivalence: 135,000 homes
  • Jobs generated in construction: more than 300 people
