The province of La Rioja closed the year with a key achievement for the energy transition: it was ranked in the first place in the “Green Investor” ranking of the Argentine Great North, prepared by researchers from the National University of San Martín (UNSAM).
This indicator measures the provinces’ ability to attract investments in renewable energies and sustainable projects, evaluating 35 indicators in three dimensions: ease of investment, institutional security, and environmental and productive sustainability.
La Rioja stood out for its balance between regulatory predictability, favorable economic conditions, and a public agenda aligned with the energy transition, decisive factors for attracting long-term investments.
Parque Arauco: national energy hub
One of the pillars of this positioning is the sustained growth of Parque Arauco, considered one of the most important energy hubs in the country. It currently has:
- 101 wind turbines in operation.
- 150 megawatts of installed capacity, connected to the Argentine Interconnection System.
The park has established itself as a strategic player within the national energy matrix and was recognized by CAMMESA in 2025 as one of the most efficient in the country, highlighting its operational reliability and effective contribution to the electrical system.
Innovation with hybrid parks
The infrastructure is expanding with new wind stages and the advancement of Parque Solar Arauco I, which will add 50 additional megawatts.
The combination of both technologies will transform the complex into one of the first solar-wind hybrid parks in Argentina and one of the most relevant in Latin America, reinforcing La Rioja’s regional leadership.
Green fiscal competitiveness
The UNSAM study also valued the Rioja fiscal framework, highlighting the Green Fiscal Competitiveness Index, which analyzes provincial tax incentives in the Gross Income tax for activities of the green economy.
La Rioja received a positive evaluation for offering clear and stable rules, a decisive element for SMEs and large projects linked to sustainable development.
Energy and social ecosystem
In the area of influence of Parque Arauco, private companies like Kallpa promote sustainable mining models, strengthening ties with the communities of the Valle del Bermejo through technical education programs, citizen participation, and institutional transparency.
These initiatives complement the official green growth strategy and consolidate an energy ecosystem with social impact.
Regional and global context
While other provinces in the Great North show unbalanced results, La Rioja managed to stand out for its overall consistency. In the final ranking, the podium was completed by Jujuy and Corrientes, although it was La Rioja that achieved the best overall performance.
In an international scenario marked by the energy transition and the relocation of value chains, the province positions itself as a central player in the Argentine North, with an expanding renewable matrix, consistent public policies, and regional-scale projects.
La Rioja stops talking about the future and shows concrete results: the green transition is already underway and positions it as a national reference in sustainable development, with environmental, social, and economic impact that transcends borders.
