An organic garden in Chivilcoy demonstrates the benefits of producing food without using chemicals

Vegetables are one of the most important foods in the food pyramid due to their multiple health benefits, as they provide essential minerals and vitamins for the body. But these foods can become much more beneficial if grown naturally, as is the case in organic gardens.

According to Jorge Romero, head of an agroecological farm in Chivilcoy, one of the keys to achieving healthy vegetables is that the soil is also healthy. For this, the producer discards the use of agrochemicals, replacing them with homemade preparations.

For this reason, Romero began implementing his own methods, which consist of using “nettle slurry” as a repellent and fertilizer. It is a fermentation preparation that includes ash and “sulfocácico” based on boiled sulfur for pest control, while for the soil he uses what is known as chicken bedding aged for two years.

These ways of caring for crops and the land led him to achieve official certification of his production technology, after having passed the rigorous analyses by engineers.

A production model that boosts the social economy

The natural vegetable grown in Romero’s organic garden is the star product of a family venture that adapts to current times, even in the area of marketing.

In this regard, the merchandise is delivered in home-delivered bags or sold at local fairs where customers can pay with Cuenta DNI and access the benefit of 40% off prices that have competitive values that attract all types of economy.

Additionally, they have the support of social networks as dissemination tools that help them to publicize their products and production methods.

How to create an ecological garden at home

To start an ecological garden at home, it is essential to choose a space with good sunlight, such as a balcony, patio, or garden. Additionally, it is recommended to use recycled containers or flowerbeds and opt for fertile soil enriched with organic compost.

Likewise, the selection of crops should adapt to the climate and the season of the year. Consequently, vegetables such as lettuce, tomato, chard, or aromatic herbs are usually ideal for beginners due to their easy handling.

On the other hand, it is key to avoid the use of agrochemicals and promote natural pest control methods. Thus, regular watering, crop rotation, and plant association favor healthy and sustainable growth.

The multiple advantages of an ecological garden

Having an ecological garden allows access to fresh foods, free of chemicals and with high nutritional value. Additionally, it encourages more responsible and conscious consumption habits.

Likewise, it contributes to the care of the environment by reducing waste and emissions associated with the transport of food. Consequently, it promotes a more sustainable model at the domestic level.

Finally, cultivating at home strengthens emotional well-being and the bond with nature. Thus, it becomes an activity that combines health, learning, and environmental commitment.
