The future of energy: an octagonal solar panel that follows the Sun

Most read

Renewable energies continue to advance even further. An example of this is the innovative octagonal solar panel that promises to revolutionize the way energy is generated and consumed. Designed to follow the Sun’s trajectory, this device not only maximizes solar radiation capture, but also doubles efficiency compared to traditional fixed panels.

One of the goals of this octagonal panel is to contribute to a diversified and sustainable energy matrix, which goes hand in hand with the goals pursued by renewable energies. This invention is equipped with an automatic solar tracking system that ensures that the photovoltaic modules are always in the ideal position to capture the maximum amount of sunlight, thus maximizing their energy performance.

In the current context of energy transition, where renewable energies are key, this portable solar panel emerges as a crucial advancement for sustainability and universal access to electricity.

Solar panels transform energy generation by offering a clean, renewable, and sustainable solution. These elements take advantage of an inexhaustible resource, such as solar radiation, to produce electricity without emissions of greenhouse gases or polluting fuels. They also promote self-consumption and reduce dependence on fossil fuels, the main culprits of climate change.

Portable and Efficient Technology

The octagonal solar panel, developed by the British startup Iris Solar, is the first “all-in-one” portable solar tracker. Unlike traditional systems, which are usually bulky and designed for fixed installations, this compact and foldable model is designed to be used in remote areas, such as campsites or outdoor excursions.

Thanks to its dual-axis motor, the panel moves automatically to remain perpendicular to the sunlight throughout the day. With a capacity of 24 W, this system can generate up to twice as much energy compared to a similar-sized fixed panel. It also includes a removable 270 Wh battery, capable of powering devices like mobile phones, laptops, and small appliances.

The battery can be pre-charged at home and extend its autonomy with solar energy while in use, an ideal solution for those who need electricity in places without access to the electrical grid.

A Step Towards the Future of Solar Energy

With an impressive capacity, this portable solar panel can charge a mobile phone up to 20 times, a laptop 3 times, and a tablet up to 9 times with a full charge, which requires between two and three days of solar exposure. This level of efficiency and portability positions it as an essential tool for nature enthusiasts, workers in remote areas, and anyone interested in sustainable energy solutions.

The octagonal solar panel not only represents a technological advancement but also a symbol of the future of renewable energies. With innovations like this, solar energy becomes more accessible and efficient, bringing us closer to a cleaner, sustainable, and autonomous global energy model. This invention marks a before and after in the history of renewable energy, reaffirming its place as the key to combating climate change and ensuring more equitable access to electricity worldwide.
