The company **Arauco** obtained the authorization from the Argentine Government and will be able to operate its new **[renewable energy plant](https://noticiasambientales.com/energia/se-inauguro-en-mendoza-un-nuevo-parque-solar-y-genneia-anuncio-una-inversion-por-usd-150-millones/)** in Misiones. The forestry company will be self-sufficient thanks to the 39-megawatt thermal power plant.
Located in Iguazú, it **is part of a modernization plan for the pulp plant**.
The authorization was officialized a few weeks ago in the Official Gazette (through resolution 86/2025 of the Ministry of Economy).
Arauco’s new renewable energy plant
The measure was endorsed by the Wholesale Electricity Market Administrator Company S.A. (**CAMMESA**), which certified Arauco’s compliance with the requirements established in the Wholesale Electricity Market (MEM).
The new thermal power plant is part of Arauco’s pulp plant modernization plan, **with an estimated investment of 10 million dollars**. They indicated that the total plan requires about **200 million dollars**.
As explained by **Pablo Ruival**, CEO of the company in Argentina, to the site *Economis*, the project includes a state-of-the-art turbogenerator capable of generating more than **40 megawatts**. However, it will operate with a 40 MW restriction due to limitations in the boiler.
**This technology replaces outdated equipment,** which will allow improvements in efficiency, consumption, and environmental impact reduction.
With these innovations, **Arauco expects to reduce its CO2 emissions by 8.7% (23,462.5 fewer tons per year)** and improve production with a higher overall equipment efficiency.
Impact on Misiones’ electrical supply
The Iguazú plant joins the existing one in **Puerto Piray**, which generates about **30 MW**. Ruival explained that with this infrastructure, Arauco **will stop drawing energy from the grid** for its pulp plant.
This implies **greater electrical availability for the province**. “Ultimately, we are releasing energy for Misiones and operating more efficiently. Additionally, the Piraí plant will continue injecting its surplus into the Argentine Interconnection System,” detailed the CEO in an interview with *FM Red Ciudadana*.
This increase in energy supply is crucial after a summer of **extreme temperatures**.
“We are very proud of this progress. It is an important project that is part of a series of investments to keep the plant competitive and **aligned with environmental standards**,” stated Ruival.
A new solar park was inaugurated in Mendoza

With an investment of **90 million dollars**, the company specialized in **[sustainable energy solutions](https://noticiasambientales.com/energia/avanza-la-construccion-del-segundo-parque-solar-de-santa-fe/)**, Genneia, inaugurated the Malargüe I Solar Park, marking its first **photovoltaic development** in the province of **Mendoza** and the fourth nationwide.
The Malargüe I Park, with an installed capacity of 90 MW, is part of the **energy sector transformation** in Mendoza, promoting sustainable supply to large industrial consumers and strengthening the Renewable Energy Term Market (Mater), as stated by the company in a press release.
