The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), through the Small Grants Programme (SGP), has collaborated on a project in Salado Norte, Santiago del Estero, aimed at strengthening the bond with and conservation of the forest through the work of rural women.

With the support of UNDP Argentina, the construction of cisterns and vegetable gardens was carried out, ensuring access to water and promoting a more varied and healthier diet.

Training and skills development

The project, promoted by the Plurales Foundation together with the Women’s Front and the Civil Association APPA, allowed women’s groups to learn:

  • Construction of plate and ferrocement cisterns.
  • Installation of manual pump systems for water extraction.
  • Collective management of water and agricultural resources.

These initiatives not only improve living conditions in rural communities, but also strengthen the organizational processes of rural and indigenous women.

Social and environmental impact

The Plurales Foundation works in the departments of Copo, Alberdi, and Pellegrini, promoting actions that ensure:

  • Equitable access to natural resources, such as water and land.
  • Gender justice in the distribution of resources.
  • Knowledge management, developing sustainable solutions with the community.

This approach allows addressing climate risks and ensuring the right to a safe and diverse diet.

The Small Grants Programme: supporting community projects

The SGP Argentina is an initiative of the Global Environment Facility (GEF), implemented by UNDP and managed by UNOPS.

Its objective is to promote local development with an environmental and community focus, allowing:

  • Financing for rural projects with social impact.
  • Linkage between community organizations and NGOs.
  • Improvement in the quality of life of populations with limited access to financial resources.

A step towards autonomy and sustainability

This project represents an advancement in environmental conservation and female empowerment, ensuring that communities can manage their own resources and improve their well-being in a sustainable manner.
