A police procedure against animal abuse was carried out last Sunday in Villa Gobernador Gálvez, a town located south of Rosario, in the province of Santa Fe.
The operation led to the arrest of 13 people allegedly linked to the clandestine organization of cockfighting, and the rescue of 18 roosters and 13 hens in a state of abandonment and suffering.
A report triggering the intervention
The police action was prompted by the observation of a neighbor who notified the authorities about individuals transporting poultry. Suspecting illegal animal fights, the intervention protocol was activated.
Upon arriving at the residence located in Los Andes passage at 3300, the agents found injured, overcrowded birds and evidence reinforcing the hypothesis of an organized clandestine activity.
Material evidence and animal suffering
During the inspection, the Animal Rescue Brigade found:
- Birds in cages and bags, some with signs of injuries
- Beak covers and vests, one of them with the inscription “gallant tradition”
- A rag doll in red simulating a rooster
- A slate with notes
- A folding square ring in the yard, along with deployed tarps
These items were seized as evidence of the alleged organization of illegal animal fights.
Arrests and judicial action
After identifying the individuals present in the property, the Police consulted the Duty Prosecutor, who ordered their preventive detention.
The case was under the jurisdiction of the 26th sub-police station, which took action regarding the detainees and the seized material.

Critical condition of rescued animals
One of the most sensitive aspects of the operation was the health condition of the animals. The Animal Rescue Brigade confiscated:
- 18 fighting roosters
- 13 hens
All birds were caged and crowded, with hygiene issues and in a “regular” state of health, according to the official report.
The Prosecutor ordered:
- Veterinary custody of the animals
- Preventive seizure of all items related to the fights
- Judicial placement of the 13 individuals detained
A case reinforcing the fight against animal abuse
The coordination between citizens, security forces, and justice allowed for an effective intervention. This operation in Villa Gobernador Gálvez highlights the importance of:
- Citizen reports as triggers for concrete actions
- Specialized police action in environmental crimes
- Rapid judicial intervention to protect animals and punish those responsible
