The Metropolitan Area of Buenos Aires (AMBA) experienced the impact of strong storms accompanied by hail this Friday, as predicted by the National Meteorological Service (SMN). The intense rainfall mainly affected the north of Buenos Aires province, activating weather alerts in several regions of the country.
Hail and Alerts in the AMBA and Provinces
In the morning, residents of various municipalities, including Exaltación de la Cruz and San Miguel del Monte, shared striking images of the hail on social media. The storm alerts extended to other localities such as General Las Heras, Luján, and Marcos Paz.
The weather shows significant variations depending on the region. While the north of the country experiences high temperatures, Córdoba faces a fire hazard, and the mountain range is hit by snowfalls that could accumulate up to two meters of snow in certain areas.
In the City of Buenos Aires, Friday was the most unstable day of the week, with a probability of rain and storms between 70% and 100%. The morning was marked by possible northern winds of up to 50 km/h and temperatures around 18°C.
In the afternoon, although the probability decreased, isolated showers persisted, raising the temperature to 23°C. By nightfall, the sky remained cloudy with temperatures close to 19°C.
For Saturday, isolated storms are forecasted with a minimum temperature of 14°C and a maximum of 18°C. On Sunday, during the 2026 World Cup final between Argentina and Spain, a cool and partly cloudy day is expected, with temperatures between 10°C and 15°C.
The SMN also maintains yellow alerts for storms in Buenos Aires, Corrientes, and Santa Fe, among other provinces. In the mountain range, snowfall warnings affect Mendoza, Neuquén, and San Juan, under an orange alert.
The south of the country continues to record extreme temperatures, with Río Grande and Río Gallegos leading, where wind chills reach -13.2°C and -11.6°C respectively.
The El Niño phenomenon has influenced recent weather conditions, favoring the entry of low-pressure systems and warm winds, which contrasts with the cold start of winter.
