Argentina and Brazil strengthen cooperation for animal health on the border: the agreement

Argentina and Brazil signed an agreement to join efforts for animal health at the border.

Actions were established with this agreement to improve epidemiological surveillance and control of zoonotic diseases in border areas.

This agreement aims to harmonize the health systems of both countries, facilitating the exchange of technical information and the implementation of coordinated measures to prevent outbreaks of diseases that can affect both wildlife and public health.

Objectives of the binational agreement

The main objectives of the agreement are:

  • Strengthen epidemiological surveillance: implement joint monitoring systems to detect and control rapidly spreading diseases, such as foot-and-mouth disease and other zoonoses.
  • Harmonize health regulations: establish common protocols for the mobilization of animals and animal products, ensuring compliance with quality and safety standards.
  • Training and technical education: develop training programs for veterinary professionals and animal health technicians, promoting constant updating in health and control practices.
  • Exchange of information and epidemiological data: facilitate the flow of information on health situations in real time, allowing a rapid and effective response to possible outbreaks.

Implementation in border areas

The implementation of the agreement will focus on border areas, where the transit of animals and animal products is more intense.

Health control points will be established at key border crossings, with the presence of joint Argentina and Brazil teams responsible for conducting inspections and applying control measures.

This agreement reinforces the commitment of both countries to food security and the protection of public health.

By improving animal health in border areas, the aim is to ensure the quality of the products being traded, reducing risks for consumers and strengthening confidence in national and international markets.
