Colombia: 85 animals released into their natural habitat

A total of 85 animals, including birds, reptiles, and mammals, were returned to their natural habitat in a release event organized in Buenaventura, in southwestern Colombia.

Native species returned to nature

These are more than 80 native species that had been voluntarily surrendered, rescued, or confiscated, among which are “boas, turtles of different species, two caimans, a mountain dog, crabs of various varieties, and four red-lored parrots,” stated David Otero, an official of the Regional Autonomous Corporation of Valle del Cauca (CVC).

Call to citizens

“Some of these animals arrive in very precarious conditions because they have been kept as pets. Wildlife does not receive the same care as domestic animals, so we call on citizens to not buy wild animals, as they have much more value in their natural habitat, fulfilling their biological functions,” pointed out Juan Fernando Ospina, from the Environmental Management department of the CVC.

Animal release event in Colombia

The species were returned to their natural habitat in a release event organized by the CVC and other regional organizations in this biodiverse area located in the Colombian Pacific.

“The best gift we can offer nature is to keep it intact. In this 2025, let’s set free the wild animals and avoid disturbing their habitats with invasive practices,” added the CVC in a statement.
