The Municipality of Paso de los Libres, Corrientes, announced the start of the construction of the Veterinary Hospital, a space dedicated to the comprehensive care of pets and animals in emergency situations.

The new veterinary center will be located at Yatay 535, where the first works have already begun to adapt the site and progress in the necessary infrastructure.

Services provided by the Veterinary Hospital

According to the Commune, the hospital will be designed to offer a specialized service, with suitable facilities to:

  • Attend emergency cases.
  • Perform sterilizations and health check-ups.
  • Carry out vaccination campaigns.
  • Promote animal welfare and responsible care.

A project aligned with public health

The initiative is part of a local public policy, designed to respond to the growing social demand linked to animal welfare. The project will be led by the architect Mauricio Ponce, who will coordinate its execution.

The Municipality emphasized that this construction represents a significant advancement for Paso de los Libres, as it is part of a comprehensive development plan, focused on inclusion and commitment to the community.

Public blood bank for pets

Considered a fundamental step for animal welfare in the city, Corrientes already has its Public Animal Blood Bank, the first in the country with the capacity to cover all stages: from extraction and storage to transfusion and scientific research.

This project was completed in October 2024 through a joint effort between the Municipality, the Faculty of Veterinary Sciences of the National University of the Northeast (Unne), and the Bansacor Foundation (Blood Bank of Corrientes).

The organization is essential for, for example, cases of injured dogs in an accident. Previously, under those circumstances, the dog had to have its own donor in the midst of the urgency, otherwise it would die. However, with the blood bank, the transfusion is faster, safer, and saves lives.
