Since May 1, 2026, sport hunting has been banned in the Partido de Pergamino, as stipulated by the Directorate of Flora and Fauna of the Province of Buenos Aires. The measure aims to preserve biodiversity, ensure ecosystem balance, and enhance safety in rural areas.
The administrative provision DISPO-2026-71, Article 1° establishes a ban on minor sport hunting until August 2 in Pergamino and other districts such as General Alvear, Villarino, Lezama, and General Las Heras.
Legal and environmental foundations
The regulation is based on Provincial Law No. 10.081, which prohibits:
- Mass capture methods of birds and wild animals.
- Formation of hunting squads on foot or horseback.
- Use of slingshots, nets, traps, toxic substances, and unauthorized weapons.
- Use of greyhounds for hare hunting.
These restrictions aim to prevent indiscriminate predation and promote sustainable management of natural resources.
Controls and rural safety
The Pergamino Security Secretariat announced that controls on rural roads and peri-urban areas will be reinforced. Additionally, complaint lines have been enabled for citizens:
- Phone: 2477-497101
- WhatsApp Ojos en Alerta Rural: 2477-509301
Community collaboration is considered essential to prevent poaching and act quickly in the face of violations.

Arguments in favor of the ban
Animal rights defenders and environmental organizations highlight:
- Animal welfare: recreational hunting is seen as unnecessary mistreatment.
- Species conservation: hunting activity disrupts natural selection by eliminating strong and reproductive specimens.
- Ethics and rights: the commercialization of wildlife is questioned, especially in private reserves for foreign tourists.
- Alternatives for population control: in the face of invasive species like the European wild boar, ethical and ecological methods are promoted instead of sport hunting.
National dimension
The measure is framed within National Law 22.421, which protects wildlife in Argentina. Bans like Pergamino’s aim to curb animal mistreatment and prevent ecosystem alteration, reinforcing the country’s commitment to biodiversity conservation.
The ban on sport hunting in Pergamino represents a significant step towards protecting native wildlife and rural safety. With reinforced controls, citizen participation, and legal support, the measure contributes to preserving biodiversity and promoting a more ethical and responsible relationship with nature.
