The Dirección de Recursos Naturales de Corrientes established new provisions for the sport hunting of wild boar (Sus scrofa) and axis deer (Axis axis), both species considered invasive and harmful to the ecosystem and agricultural production.
The Resolution No. 248 responds to the need to update the criteria for hunting permits and permissions, addressing both the demands of sport hunters and the concerns of rural producers affected by the proliferation of these species.
The new regulations aim to facilitate population control of these animals, allowing hunters to increase the number of specimens hunted. Hunting will be permitted from Monday to Sunday, except in protected areas, parks, and reserves. Regarding restrictions, the limit for axis deer is removed, meaning that hunters may hunt without quantity or sex distinction limits. In the case of wild boar, the regulations maintain the elimination of any type of restriction for its hunting.
Furthermore, the movement within the province of hunted axis deer without the need for a seal is authorized, although it will be mandatory in case of interjurisdictional transfers. For wild boar, the exemption from seals is maintained both within and outside the province.
## Economic Impact and Hunting Tourism
The Dirección de Recursos Naturales highlighted that, although the proliferation of these species causes serious damage to producers, sport hunting also represents an important economic income for many communities in the interior.
In this sense, the activity has allowed various producers to diversify their sources of income through hunting tourism, an alternative that has gained relevance amid adversities such as droughts, fires, and floods. Additionally, the arrival of hunters and tourists has a positive impact on the local economy, benefiting tour operators, businesses, and the province in general.
## Requirements and Sanctions
To participate in sport hunting, interested parties must have:
– Valid hunting license.
– Permission from the landowner, issued by the Dirección de Recursos Naturales.
– Authorization to enter the establishment for all members of the hunting party.
The regulations establish that any species not authorized for hunting is considered protected. In case of illegal hunting detection, the confiscation of the hunt, seizure of weapons, and application of sanctions according to the law will proceed.
Finally, it is clarified that the Dirección de Recursos Naturales de Corrientes will be the only authorized body for issuing permits, both for commercial and non-profit field owners.
