Resistance: Three dogs rescued in deplorable condition and owner banned from having animals again

In the city of Resistencia (Chaco), the Metropolitan Rural Police intervened following a report about dogs in a state of abandonment at a residence on Arbo y Blanco street. The alert was made by the president of the Fundación Hogar Cuatro Patitas, who reported two dogs tied up and in poor conditions.

Upon arrival, the officers confirmed the situation and found three mixed-breed dogs in deplorable condition. With the intervention of the Rural Prosecutor’s Office, the preventive seizure of the animals was ordered, the owner was notified, and a prohibition on owning canine and/or feline animals was imposed.

The three dogs were transported in individual crates and delivered in provisional judicial custody to the Fundación Hogar Cuatro Patitas, where they will receive veterinary care, food, and care for their recovery.

Legal framework in Chaco

Animal abuse in the province is governed by the National Law No. 14.346, which penalizes acts of cruelty with imprisonment, and by the Provincial Animal Protection Regime, which toughens contraventional sanctions.

Current measures and sanctions

  • Economic fines: up to $18,390,000 (equivalent to 50 minimum wages).
  • Additional penalties: arrest, disqualification from owning animals, and community service.
  • Offender registry: provincial database for tracking sanctioned individuals.
  • Protection fund: the amounts collected are allocated to rescue, veterinary assistance, and sterilization.
In Resistencia, dogs are rescued in deplorable conditions.

Social and environmental impact

The case reflects the importance of strengthening public awareness about animal welfare. Abandonment and abuse not only affect animals but also pose health and social risks. Local foundations play a key role in rescue and rehabilitation but require community and state support to sustain their tasks.

The ownership ban applied in this case sets a precedent in the province, showing that sanctions can be effective in deterring acts of cruelty. It also highlights the need to reinforce environmental education and respect for animals as part of social coexistence.

Where to report

Reports of animal abuse or cruelty can be made at:

  • Local police stations: all police sections are obliged to receive them.
  • Criminal Investigation Prosecutor’s Offices: in serious cases, directly to the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Chaco.
  • Local protectors: non-profit organizations like Fundación Patitas channel rescues and provide evidence of the animals’ condition.

The intervention in Resistencia demonstrates that the application of the law and cooperation between authorities and civil organizations are essential to combat animal abuse.

The ownership prohibition sanction, along with the rescue of the three dogs, reinforces Chaco’s commitment to animal protection and the building of a more just and respectful society towards life.
