The General Directorate of Forests and Wildlife of Santiago del Estero has issued a resolution that authorizes sport hunting in a large part of the province.
The measure, in effect from May 28th to August 3rd, is governed by Provincial Law No. 4802 “Protection of Wildlife” and its Regulatory Decree Series “B” 6896/83.
Restricted areas and protected species
Hunting will be prohibited in the Capital, Banda, Guasayán, Choya, Rivadavia and Copo departments, as well as specific natural spaces such as:
- Los Porongos Lagoon.
- Termas de Río Hondo and El Perilago Lakes.
- Figtree Dam Reservoir.
- Provincial river courses.
Furthermore, the hunting of various wild species is prohibited, including:
- Felines and ungulates: Puma, Corzuela or Guazuncha, Collared Peccary, Quimilero Pig.
- Birds and rodents: Rhea, Vizcacha, Rabbit, Wild Goose, different species of duck.
All native fauna not expressly authorized for the 2025 season will be protected.
Allowed species and capture limits
Sport hunting is restricted to daylight hours, with specific limits for each category:
Smaller mammals
- European hare, otter, fox: 2 units per outing and per hunter.
Larger mammals
- Wild boar and feral pig: Unlimited.
- Collared Peccary: 1 per outing, with mandatory seal.
Birds
- Turtle dove: Up to 40 specimens per outing.
- Bronze-winged dove: Unlimited.
- Small partridge: Maximum of 5 per hunter.
- Mountain partridge: Up to 3 units.
- Charatas: 5 units per outing.
Each hunter may capture a maximum of 10 pieces per outing, while foreign hunters will be limited to two outings per season.
Sport hunting of invasive species and legal requirements
Hunting is authorized without limits for species declared as pests or exotics, such as:
- Wild boar, red deer, axis deer, antelope, buffalo, wild sheep, wild goat, among others.
This activity can be carried out year-round on private properties with the owner’s permission, and in public spaces with official authorization.
Regulation of firearms transportation
During transport, firearms must travel disassembled and stored in cases or covers.
Hunting is prohibited in nature reserves and sanctuaries, ensuring the preservation of fauna in protected areas.
