Shocking: Whale “eats” kayaker, then spits him out

An impressive video recorded in the ocean in Chile traveled around the world in the last few hours: involving a whale and a kayak. In the footage, you can see how the animal “swallows” a young man who was in the boat and then expels him seconds later.

The incident took place on February 8th in the Strait of Magellan, in the commune of Punta Arenas. The images capture the exact moment the sequence occurs.

A whale “eats” a kayak and expels it: this was the tense moment

The young man’s father recorded everything on video. There, you can see how a humpback whale emerges from the depths and, for a few seconds, catches the boy in its mouth before expelling him back to the surface.

The incident took place in the waters near San Isidro Lighthouse, in El Águila Bay, while Adrián Simancas, a 24-year-old Venezuelan analyst, programmer, and musician, was on a journey in a packraft along with his father, Dell Simancas, a 49-year-old anesthesiologist.

It is an inflatable boat designed for exploring southern waters. The video, which quickly went viral on social media, shows the moment when the whale unexpectedly emerges and, in a matter of seconds, drags the young man and his boat into its mouth before returning him to the sea.

Seconds later, to the surprise of his father, the whale expels the young man, who manages to resurface completely unharmed. Despite the magnitude of the event, Simancas did not suffer any injuries, allowing him to leave the water without major complications.

“I thought it had eaten me”

The moment when the whale eats the kayak.

“I saw something between blue and white passing close to my face and it’s on one side and on top. I didn’t understand what was happening. Then I dive and thought it had eaten me,” said the young man to the TV channel TVN.

After the unexpected encounter, father and son decided to cancel their journey, as the weather conditions also quickly deteriorated. According to their testimony, the wind and currents intensified, making it difficult to continue safely.

It was an incredible and terrifying experience at the same time,” commented Dell Simancas after the episode.
