The polar wave that had taken control of the province of Buenos Aires during the first part of July is starting to subside, making way for a significant increase in temperature. This change opens the door to a phenomenon known as the “July summer”, which will also bring rain to various areas.
The weather conditions are transforming after several weeks of extreme cold, intense frosts, and sub-zero temperatures that complicated both urban and rural life. Now, a strong north wind current will be crucial to push the cold air towards the Atlantic and facilitate the transition to warmer weather.
July summer: The climate transition in Buenos Aires
According to experts from Meteored, with information reproduced by the agency DIB, positive thermal anomalies are observed covering much of central and northern Argentina. In Buenos Aires, average temperatures are expected to exceed normal averages by 2 °C to 4 °C.
This temperature increase will offer relief from the winter cold, but it will also increase humidity in the environment. This combination will favor the appearance of fog and mist, potentially reducing visibility on Buenos Aires roads during the early hours of the day.
Farmers in the region will welcome this climate change, as the rise in temperatures will reduce the risk of late frosts, which had been a threat to winter crops, especially in the agricultural core area.
Additionally, the expected rainfall in the coming days will facilitate the growth of crops by improving soil hydration, vital after a long period of scarce rain.
The arrival of a humid frontal system from Patagonia will interact with the warm air now present in the Pampas region, achieving an atmospheric instability that will cause moderate rains in central Buenos Aires.
Although the mild weather and scattered rains will seem promising during the week, meteorologists warn about the high variability that still persists in the atmosphere. This climate change marks the beginning of a new chapter for the Buenos Aires winter, thus altering the forecasts for the remainder of this season.
