The operation took place between March 17 and 18. According to the authorities, during the patrol inside the park, the agents did not find traces of predators, but did record signs of transit of various wildlife species.

However, when inspecting a private lot owned by a yerba mate company, which is part of the ecological strip surrounding the park, they detected a clandestine shelter with evidence.

As they specified, the shelter was recently used. Along these lines, they dismantled the camp and left it out of operation to prevent its reuse.

Surveillance tasks included vehicle controls on nearby routes, drone flights over the boundaries of the protected area, as well as gathering information from local residents.

It rejected the appeals filed by the defenses of the accused, confirming the measures taken in Sentence No. 70/24 issued by the Single-Judge of the III Judicial District.

This ruling reaffirms the firmness of judicial action against crimes that threaten the natural heritage and the legality in handling weapons.

They were convicted for an incident that occurred on May 21, 2022. They were intercepted on a farm located in the fourth section of the Sauce Department, Corrientes.

According to the proven background in the case, the accused were at the site dressed in camouflage clothing and carrying various items used for hunting, including two firearms ready to shoot, one of which was equipped with a suppressor (silencer).

“The conviction itself was in a situation that occurred in Sauce, on a farm. Two people had permission to hunt in one place and entered to hunt in another place with modified weapons, including silencers, which is prohibited,” detailed Gerardo Cabral, Rural and Environmental Prosecutor of Corrientes, to Noticias Ambientales.

“They were hunting on someone else’s land, so they were sentenced in one case to 3 years and 9 months and in the other to 2 years and 4 months, in a public oral trial,” he specified.

“It is an important precedent because, at the time of being apprehended, they had not hunted anything, but they were in camouflage clothing, with weapons ready to shoot. In other words, in a hunting attitude, which was confirmed by the Superior Court of Justice,” he emphasized.
