Córdoba promotes the installation of solar trees in urban green spaces to monitor the environment

In a context of increasing environmental pressure, the city of Córdoba is advancing with technological solutions that combine sustainability and innovation. One of them is Ecosen, an environmental monitoring system powered by solar energy.

The project is developed with funding from the Innovate for Climate program, promoted by Bloomberg Philanthropies. Additionally, it is coordinated by CorLab.

Thus, the initiative seeks to respond to the need for reliable environmental data. Especially in areas where there is no electrical infrastructure available.

How does the Ecosen sensor system work?

The Ecosen system is designed as an autonomous platform. It operates through sensors that record variables such as air quality, temperature, and humidity.

It also features a data acquisition and transmission mechanism. This information is sent to a digital platform for real-time analysis.

Additionally, it is powered by solar panels and batteries. Therefore, it ensures continuous operation without relying on conventional electrical grids.

This feature allows for its installation in multiple environments. Consequently, it expands the possibilities for environmental monitoring in urban and rural areas.

Pilot implementation in Parque Las Heras-Elisa

The first test of the system was carried out in Parque Las Heras-Elisa. There, the pilot model known as Solar Tree was installed.

This initial stage allowed for the validation of the system’s design and efficiency. It also confirmed its capacity to operate autonomously.

On the other hand, the results obtained will serve as a basis for future improvements. Consequently, its expansion to other areas of the city is projected.

Furthermore, the experience demonstrates the potential of integrating technology and the environment. This reinforces the role of green spaces as strategic monitoring points.

What are the advantages of this initiative for the environment and society?

The development of Ecosen provides multiple environmental benefits. Firstly, it allows for the collection of accurate data that facilitates public decision-making.

Additionally, it promotes the use of renewable energies. This contributes to reducing the carbon footprint associated with technological systems.

On the other hand, it encourages practices related to the circular economy. Consequently, it fosters a more efficient use of available resources.

Moreover, its replicable nature makes it a scalable tool. This allows for its implementation in different productive and social contexts.

Finally, it strengthens environmental education. By displaying data in real-time, it raises awareness about the quality of the environment.

Institutional coordination for a sustainable model

The project is the result of joint work between technology companies and public organizations. In this case, Onsen Ingeniería and Enesolar are involved.

Both teams contribute knowledge in renewable energies and automation. In this way, they manage to develop integrated solutions with a positive impact.

Furthermore, the initiative is part of the Innovate for Climate program. This space promotes projects that seek to mitigate the effects of climate change.

Ultimately, Ecosen represents a step towards smarter and more sustainable cities. Thus, innovation is consolidated as a key tool to face the current environmental challenges.
