Powerbox SE: create a low-cost solar box that brings electricity to rural communities in Nigeria

In Nigeria, millions of people still rely on diesel generators, kerosene, or are directly without electricity. To tackle this challenge, Professor Hafiz Alaka from the University of Hertfordshire spearheaded the development of Powerbox SE, a low-cost solar box that generates 1.2 kWh daily and is already transforming the lives of rural communities.

  • Each box captures enough solar energy to power LED lighting, fans, laptops, small appliances, and even low-consumption washing machines.

In Kaduna state, about 70 units are already operating, supplying homes, schools, and businesses.
