Renewable energies in the United Kingdom have already reached 47%

Renewable energies in the UK have reached 47% of the matrix. This was reported by the Renewable Energy Association and Clean Technology (REA). This represents almost half of the territory’s electricity, compared to just 15% a decade ago.

The latest annual report from REA, REview 24, detailed that the sector reached a market value of £24.38 billion in the fiscal year 2022/23.

Another positive point is that projections estimate a market expansion to over £41 billion by 2035. The renewable sector is expected to play an important role in boosting the economy and ensuring a sustainable energy future.

Overall, 15.5% of the UK’s energy (electricity, heat, and transportation) comes from renewable sources.

The sector also saw a strong employment growth, reaching nearly 143,000 jobs in fields that include solar and offshore wind energy.

Trevor Hutchings, CEO of the REA (Renewable Energy Association and Clean Technology), highlighted the progress. “It is our flagship annual report and a leading assessment of the UK’s renewable energy and clean technology sector,” he said.

The numbers showing renewable energies in the UK are positive, but acceleration is also necessary. In addition to decarbonization in the heating and transportation sectors, where renewables represent only 9.4% and 6% of demand, respectively.

“As the Prime Minister has reiterated in recent days, renewable energy and clean technology are driving economic growth and creating jobs on a global scale,” Hutchings added.

## Energy independence
Michael Shanks, Member of Parliament and Minister of Energy at the Department of Energy Security and Net Zero, spoke about this.

“These findings confirm that the government’s clean energy mission is not only the right long-term option but is essential for strengthening our energy independence, protecting people’s bills, and helping address climate change.

“Working hand in hand with our renewable energy industry, we have already achieved a record of 131 renewable projects in just four months,” he emphasized.
