The El Quemado solar park of YPF recently received commercial authorization to operate its first 100 MW in Mendoza.
It is the country’s largest photovoltaic project and represents the seventh renewable development of YPF Luz.
Thanks to this, from zero hours last Tuesday, the El Quemado solar park began injecting energy into the Argentine Interconnection System (SADI).
CAMMESA granted the commercial authorization for the facility to operate officially. The generated energy already supplies the national power grid.
Million-dollar investment and construction progress
The park required an approximate investment of US$210 million. The project already exceeds 80% progress in its construction.
The facility will reach a total capacity of 305 MW that will be incorporated gradually. The full commissioning will be completed in the first half of 2026.
The park is located in the department of Las Heras, 53 kilometers from the city of Mendoza. With this authorization, YPF Luz doubled its installed solar energy capacity, now reaching 200 MW.
The energy impact and environmental benefits of the El Quemado solar park
YPF Luz reported that the El Quemado solar park will generate energy equivalent to the consumption of more than 233,000 Argentine households.
This production is enough to cover the demand of all households in the City of Mendoza and the departments of Las Heras and Levalle.
In early December, the energization of the park was carried out, that is, the connection of the new transformer station to the SADI.
This connection to the grid initiated the phase of commissioning and functional tests that preceded the service start-up.
