A municipal nursery in Formosa prepares thousands of seedlings to promote urban tree planting and environmental awareness

A municipal nursery in Formosa is preparing for the next urban tree planting campaign that began in April. This initiative will include the free distribution of trees to residents, in addition to planting operations in various neighborhoods of the city.

To carry out this project, the nursery will offer a booklet with different species, especially third magnitude trees. These species are the most recommended for sidewalks and small spaces, as they help to avoid future problems with sidewalks, pipes, or structures.

In addition to third magnitude species, there are also native varieties and others adapted to the local climate available. These seedlings can not only be picked up by residents, but they can also request the free planting service in their neighborhoods.

For this, the Municipality will be responsible for organizing orders by zones and carrying out operations when a certain number of requests are gathered. This service can be requested through the municipal line 0800-9999-147.

An initiative that seeks to beautify the city and benefit the environment

According to the local authorities, the initiative aims to expand urban tree planting and generate greater environmental awareness among residents. For this reason, advice will be provided to residents so they can better choose the appropriate tree, according to the available space and the species preference they seek, whether with flowers, deciduous, or evergreen.

Among the species the municipality will offer are the crepe myrtle, ash, soap tree, false mahogany, lapacho, and loquat, which is valued for its fruit that attracts birds.

Additionally, the campaign will include special activities to encourage urban forestry. It is also being considered to hold mass planting days or tree distribution points in central areas of the city.

The environmental and social benefits of municipal seedling production

The production of thousands of seedlings in the municipal nursery represents a key strategy to strengthen urban tree planting and improve the environmental quality of cities. Through these initiatives, local governments can expand green coverage and recover degraded spaces.

Moreover, tree planting helps mitigate the effects of climate change in urban environments. Vegetation captures carbon dioxide, reduces street temperatures, and helps decrease the impact of increasingly frequent heatwaves.

On the other hand, urban tree planting plays a fundamental role in regulating the water cycle. Roots facilitate rain infiltration into the soil, which reduces the risk of flooding and improves the health of urban ecosystems.

Additionally, trees serve as a refuge for birds, pollinating insects, and small animals, which promotes biodiversity within cities. This biological diversity allows for the maintenance of essential ecological processes even in highly urbanized environments.

Finally, forestation campaigns also generate social benefits. Green spaces improve the well-being of the population, encourage community participation in environmental activities, and strengthen awareness of the importance of protecting nature.
