En el marco de su política de environmental management and recovery of public spaces, crews from Public Spaces Tree Planting carried out urban forestry tasks at the ‘La Jarilla’ Treatment and Recycling Plant, located 4 kilometers from Quines, San Luis.
This action adds to a series of interventions at recycling stations that aim to create green lungs and improve environmental quality in operational areas.
Forestry curtains: environmental protection and operational functionality
Trees help reduce odors, windblown debris, and visual pollution at waste plants.
The initiative includes the planting of tree species in line, forming forestry curtains that serve multiple functions:
- Reduction of odors and windblown debris
- Protection against the dispersion of plastics and light waste
- Aesthetic and environmental improvement of the surroundings
“We completed the plantings on the side facing the road. The work is done in stages, with prior selection of species according to their function,” explained Mariano Gómez, head of Provincial Nurseries.

Selected species: diversity and adaptation to the environment
Trees of low, medium, and large size are combined to maximize benefits.
Among the species used are:
- Poplars, casuarinas, acacias, and cypresses
- Peppertrees and ash trees
- Native flora such as carob, white quebracho, caldén, jarilla, and rosemary
These species allow for temperature regulation, pollutant absorption, noise dampening, and beautification of the urban landscape, generating a positive impact on the physical and mental health of people.
Replication in other recycling plants
Forestry extends to ‘La Metro’ (Dónovan), ‘Peuma’ (La Toma), and ‘El Jote’ (Carpintería).
The strategy is applied in all urban solid waste treatment centers in the province, consolidating a model of green infrastructure that accompanies the recovery of industrial materials with ecological restoration.
Urban forestry: a tool against climate change
The Municipality of San Luis, through the Municipal Nursery, produces between 600 and 700 seedlings of aromatic species and vegetables weekly, in addition to maintaining 500 trees in growth.
For public spaces, specimens of 1.5 to 2 meters in height are acquired, prioritizing areas with empty tree pits and sidewalks suitable for planting.
Environmental and social benefits of urban tree planting
Trees improve air quality, regulate temperature, and foster a connection with nature.
- Absorb carbon dioxide and release oxygen
- Reduce the heat island effect
- Decrease noise pollution
- Contribute to water management
- Promote psychological well-being and mental health
- Beautify the urban landscape and strengthen heritage value
