Cold wave in the AMBA: Southwest wind, river surge, and storms on the way

The cold front has already settled in the AMBA, marking a drastic change from the previous mildness. This Saturday, May 2, presents with southwest wind, temperatures dropping and gusts ranging between 40 and 55 km/h, setting a typical winter scenario.

Saturday of winds and flood alert

The protagonist of the day is the wind, whose intensity over the Río de la Plata is causing a water piling effect. The Naval Hydrography Service (SHN) issued a flood warning, estimating that the river level will rise up to 90 cm above the usual values on the Buenos Aires coast.

  • Flood peak: Expected between 7:00 PM and 10:00 PM.

  • Recommendation: Residents of flood-prone areas should take extreme precautions and follow official updates.

Sunday: The peak of the cold

For tomorrow, Sunday, May 3, it is expected that the polar air will settle more strongly. The minimum temperatures could drop to 4 °C in suburban areas and hover around 6 °C in urbanized zones. Due to the persistence of the wind, the wind chill will be even lower, with highs not exceeding 17 °C.

Forecast for next week

The week will begin with a gradual thermal recovery thanks to the wind shifting to the north sector:

  • Monday and Tuesday: Predominant sun, little wind, and highs rising to 21 °C or 22 °C.

  • Wednesday night: A low-pressure system from the north will increase instability.

  • Thursday and Friday: The probability of showers and cloudy skies increases, consolidating the autumn weather in the region.

In summary, the next seven days present two stages: a weekend of dry and windy cold, followed by a temporary improvement ending with rain towards the end of the week.
