Ecological alert in Hudson: construction progresses on a private neighborhood amidst controversy and opposition from residents

“`html

The construction of a private neighborhood is advancing these days in Hudson, Berazategui, and it triggers complaints and controversy among neighbors and environmentalists.

They claim that trees were massively cut down, a public street was closed off, and information is being hidden by the Municipality about the real impact of the project.

This concerns the neighborhood Ayres de Hudson, with 134 planned homes on 13 hectares adjacent to the Roca railway tracks. What threats are they pointing out.

Deforestation, sanitation, and threats to the aquifer: complaints about the private neighborhood in Hudson

Organizations like the Regional Forum in Defense of the River Plate warn that the project is very close to the Pereyra Iraola Biosphere Reserve.

Additionally, they indicate that the intervened strip should act as a buffer zone for the ecosystem, as recommended by UNESCO.

The project does not consider a connection to the public drinking water network, so it is planned to install a central well that would draw from the Puelche aquifer, a vital resource for the region.

Additionally, the planned sewer system would discharge effluents into the municipal network, which could overload it, and the storm drains would discharge directly into the Baldovinos stream, increasing the pollutant load.

According to environmentalists, there is no public evidence of the mandatory Environmental Impact Study. At the same time, an accelerated deforestation was observed, following the “diversion” of infrastructures like Lisandro de la Torre street.

Impacted resources

  • Local biodiversity: deforestation and intervention in protected areas threaten key habitats for native species and the ecological balance of the Reserve.

  • Water resources: intensive use of the Puelche aquifer and effluent discharge threaten water quality, with potential health consequences for the local population.

  • Transparency and urban planning: the lack of official information raises concerns about environmental and urban management standards in future projects.

Legal and social approach: a call to halt construction

In this regard, environmental organizations demand:

  1. Stop the construction until a complete and accessible Environmental Impact Study is available.

  2. Reverse the closure of public streets, a right of the neighbors and part of urban connectivity.

  3. Preserve the buffer zones around Pereyra Iraola Reserve, essential to maintain the ecosystem’s integrity.
