Fire crisis in La Pampa: the blaze ravages 83,000 hectares and keeps three critical fronts active

The province is facing an unprecedented agricultural emergency with an igneous crisis and uncontrolled outbreaks in Jacinto Arauz, Alpachiri, and Hucal, aggravated by extreme heat and drought.

The province of La Pampa is on maximum alert due to the relentless advance of rural fires in La Pampa, which have already devastated more than 83,000 hectares of grasslands and natural forests since the start of the season.

Currently, authorities are battling three active igneous outbreaks that threaten the sustainability of livestock production and are causing million-dollar losses in the sector.

The most affected areas are located in the departments of Jacinto Arauz, Alpachiri, and Hucal. In these locations, the flames have advanced over productive establishments, destroying the forage necessary for the sustenance of cattle in the middle of summer.

Igneous crisis in a complex climatic scenario

According to sources from Civil Defense, the phenomenon is exacerbated by an adverse climatic scenario: temperatures exceeding 45 degrees, changing winds, and a large accumulation of dry biomass, resulting from a spring with rains that favored grass growth, now turned into fuel.

The origin of these disasters is mainly linked to thunderstorms that discharged lightning over the dry land, although sparks generated by vehicles on the roads are also being investigated.

Despite the operations, local producers report a critical situation, noting livestock mortality and irreversible soil degradation that will require restructuring of livestock management schemes in the short term.

To contain the advance of the fire, an operation involving more than 50 specialists has been deployed, including firefighters from the Provincial Fire Management Plan, Volunteer Firefighters, and personnel from the National Fire Management Service.

The combat tasks are supported by water-bombing planes and helicopters in hard-to-reach areas. However, the weather forecast is not encouraging, as no significant rainfall is expected to mitigate the intensity of the rural fires in La Pampa in the coming days.

The situation remains under constant monitoring, while emergency teams work against the clock to prevent new outbreaks from further extending the perimeter of destruction on the Pampas map.
