The city of Florida has begun the construction of a new state park, recently approved by Governor DeSantis and the Florida Cabinet in one of the most beautiful beaches in the area.
This will be the first new park in seven years and will mark a milestone in the expansion of protected areas in the Sunshine State.
A New State Park in Florida
The park will be built in a scenic natural region known for its beautiful white sand beaches and crystal clear waters, with an investment of 8.4 million dollars.
The acquired land in the county’s center will establish the 176th park in the state and will connect to a landscape protection area around Eglin Air Force Base, ensuring the conservation and enjoyment of the area’s valuable resources.
Project Details
The Upper Shoal River project will encompass 1,006 hectares of land in Walton County, a region popular for its beautiful coastline and coastal dune lakes, as well as its biodiversity.
This will be the fifth state park in Walton County and the first new park in the state since 2017, when the Gilchrist Blue Springs State Park was approved.
Objectives and Benefits
Alexis Lambert, Secretary of the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, explained that the land acquisition will serve to protect water resources and a wildlife habitat corridor.
The new state park is designed to make the most of its unique landscape, which includes forests, plains, and streams that feed the Shoal River.
