France approves exceptional use of pesticides questioned by beekeepers, sparking controversy.

The **French Parliament** approved a **bill allowing the exceptional use of acetamiprid** this week, a neonicotinoid pesticide whose [impact on pollinators](https://noticiasambientales.com/animales/alertan-sobre-efectos-ocultos-de-uno-de-los-fungicidas-mas-usados-y-la-reproduccion-de-insectos-polinizadores/) generates strong opposition from environmental and beekeeping sectors.

The measure aims to **meet urgent demands from agricultural unions**, amid protests that included claims against the EU-Mercosur trade agreement.

A reintroduction under conditions

The initiative was validated by the **National Assembly**, and includes:

  • Limited and regulated use of **acetamiprid**
  • Controlled application by type of crop
  • Technical justification against **pests without effective alternatives**

Although this chemical is authorized in other European countries, studies on **its effects on human health** are insufficient, which has raised controversy. “The **European Food Safety Authority** supports its use based on scientific evidence,” said ruling party deputy **Jean-Luc Fugit**.

A pesticide under public scrutiny

**Beet and hazelnut producers** support the measure, alleging unfair competition and a shortage of phytosanitary tools. On the other hand, the beekeeping sector denounces its [direct impact on ecosystems](https://noticiasambientales.com/residuos/basura-espacial-de-spacex-contamina-playas-de-mexico-y-piden-que-retire-los-restos-para-evitar-danos-al-ecosistema/).

“It’s a bee killer,” warned environmental leader **Marine Tondelier**, who also pointed out the potential risks to children’s health. “Voting for this law is voting for the poisoning of your children,” she said.

Water for irrigation and intensive livestock farming: new points of conflict

The law also includes provisions to **facilitate water storage for irrigation**, in the context of **water scarcity worsened by climate change**. However, these articles have sparked controversy:

  • Leftist sectors criticize that it is **not an effective adaptation**, but an insufficient measure in the face of the environmental crisis
  • The **facilitation of expansions of intensive livestock buildings** is also objected, due to its ecological impact and on animal welfare

A law that exposes structural dilemmas

The vote highlighted the **persistent tensions between agricultural productivity, environmental health, and state regulation**.

In a France shaken by rural mobilizations, the balance between sustaining the agro-industrial sector and the **protection of key ecosystems** such as pollinators returns to the center of legislative debate.
