In the Metropolitan Area of Buenos Aires, residents should prepare for a significant change in weather conditions this Friday, July 17, 2026. After several days with atypically warm temperatures for the season, a humid and unstable front is approaching, bringing continuous rain and a gradual drop in temperature at night.
Intense rains and winds in Buenos Aires
One of the main concerns for the coming hours is the amount of rain expected, along with the change in wind direction. The National Meteorological Service (SMN) has issued warnings about southern gusts, which could reach speeds of between 42 and 50 km/h, affecting visibility and complicating traffic during the evening commute.
In the City of Buenos Aires and the Greater Buenos Aires area, Friday begins with humidity levels exceeding 85% and a mostly cloudy sky. Minimum temperatures will hover around 17°C, offering a feeling of heaviness due to the lack of wind in the early hours of the day.
At noon, meteorological instability will intensify. The maximum temperature is expected to reach 23°C, accompanied by moderate rain and isolated storms, with a probability of precipitation ranging between 40% and 70%.
In Greater Buenos Aires, there will be geographical variations. Areas like Esteban Echeverría and Lomas de Zamora will see rain starting at noon, while in the north, changes will arrive later but with similar conditions.
At night, rains are expected to decrease temporarily, giving way to definitive southern winds. This will cause a gradual cooling, with nighttime temperatures around 20°C, anticipating a cooler weekend.
Weather and alerts in the rest of Argentina
Nationally, a low-pressure system impacts the Andean region. The Early Warning System (SAT) has issued an orange alert for snowfalls in the mountains of Mendoza and San Juan, where snow accumulations could exceed two meters.
Additionally, yellow alerts for intense winds and Zonda wind have been issued in the northwest of the country. The affected provinces include Jujuy, Salta, Tucumán, Catamarca, La Rioja, San Juan, and Mendoza, with dry and warm gusts that could complicate visibility and raise temperatures in pre-Andean areas.
In other areas of the province of Buenos Aires, rains of varying intensity are expected, especially on the Atlantic Coast, where localities like Aguas Verdes will face intermittent precipitation and moderate northern winds.
For Saturday, July 18, the AMBA will continue with unstable conditions, with isolated rains in the morning and showers in the afternoon, due to a cold air mass that will reduce the maximum temperature to 17°C.
On Sunday, July 19, the weather will stabilize in the center of the country. The sky will remain mostly cloudy, without rain, with southern winds maintaining a cold environment, with minimums of 10°C and maximums not exceeding 14°C.
Next week, high pressure will ensure cold mornings, with minimums of 9°C, and slightly cool afternoons, with decreasing cloudiness and no new rains in the metropolitan region.
