A national park is a protected natural area, aimed at conserving its natural and cultural resources. In the country, these parks not only seek to preserve biodiversity but also promote responsible tourism and environmental education.

They play a crucial role in protecting ecosystems and regulating land use. They also ensure that future generations can enjoy these environments.

They exhibit many ecological, aesthetic, cultural, educational, scientific, and diverse peculiarities in order to highlight the preservation, declared of general interest by the State. In terms of extension, they cover about 4,365,000 hectares of land.

They are distributed in the following areas: Andean Heights, Puna, Patagonian Forests, Patagonian Steppe, Espinal, Dry Chaco, Humid Chaco, Ibera Wetlands, Fields and Cornfields, Delta and Paraná Islands, Pampas, Plains and Plateaus Monte, Yungas Jungle, Paranaense Jungle, South Atlantic Islands, Argentine Sea, Antarctica.

In this sense, some of the benefits they provide can be grouped as:
1. **Conservation of biodiversity**: they protect native species, many of which are endangered. The fauna and flora inhabiting these spaces are essential for ecological balance.
2. **Promotion of ecotourism**: they have become important tourist destinations that promote ecotourism. Activities such as hiking, wildlife observation, and nature photography attract tourists from around the world.
3. **Environmental education**: National Parks also have an educational role, teaching the population about the importance of caring for natural resources and the environment.

## Tourism: how to visit
The list of protected areas is extensive in Argentina. The good news is that, for the most part, they can be visited without any issues.

On the official website of the [National Parks Administration](https://www.argentina.gob.ar/planea-tu-visita), details can be consulted, according to each park, to learn about entrance fees and available activities.

It is estimated that today, in the entire network of protected areas, 15% of all terrestrial carbon is stored. This makes them key focal points in the fight against climate change.

The system of national parks in our country currently has 49 protected areas and four native species declared natural monuments: the Southern Right Whale, the Huemul, the Taruca, and the Jaguar.
