The traditional Zoo Bal Park in Montecarlo is undergoing a profound transformation phase after the Ministry of Ecology of Misiones ordered its temporary closure to the public following the dissemination of images that raised concerns about the condition of some animals housed on the premises.
The provincial intervention included notifying the owners and initiating a comprehensive audit aimed at evaluating the sanitary, environmental, and living conditions of each specimen. In this way, the authorities seek to determine the necessary measures to ensure the welfare of the fauna.
Additionally, technical teams comprised of professionals from the Ministry of Ecology, municipal agents, and non-governmental organizations began an exhaustive survey that will allow for a complete diagnosis of the current situation of the establishment.

A new model focused on fauna protection
The review of the premises is part of a broader process that reflects the changes experienced by former zoos in Argentina and in various parts of the world.
Over the past decades, numerous institutions have moved away from traditional models of animal exhibition to transform into spaces oriented towards conservation, environmental education, and species recovery.
In this context, the provincial authorities requested modifications aimed at adapting the identity and functioning of the place to the new animal protection criteria, seeking to strengthen its conservationist and educational profile.
The future of the animals will be evaluated case by case
One of the central axes of the process consists of analyzing the health status and the specific needs of each species present on the premises.
Those specimens that meet the necessary conditions may be reintroduced into natural environments compatible with their biological requirements. This measure seeks to favor the recovery of wild populations and strengthen the regional ecosystems.
On the other hand, animals requiring specialized attention or permanent care will be transferred to rescue and rehabilitation centers or will remain in adapted facilities to ensure a better quality of life.

The history of Zoo Bal Park in Montecarlo
Zoo Bal Park was consolidated over decades as one of the most well-known recreational spaces in Montecarlo. Its name arose from the combination of the activities it offered: zoo, beach, and park.
Over the years, it received visitors from different parts of Misiones and other provinces, becoming a traditional tourist attraction in the region. Its proposal integrated recreational areas with sections dedicated to the exhibition of fauna.
However, the evolution of conservation policies and new approaches to animal welfare have driven profound changes in this type of establishment. Therefore, as has happened with other historic spaces in the country, the premises have begun a reconversion process that could bring it closer to models similar to modern ecoparks.
Conservation and environmental education as priority objectives
The transformation of the premises represents an opportunity to strengthen actions for the protection of wildlife and promote a more respectful relationship between people and nature.
Likewise, these processes allow for the creation of educational spaces where visitors can learn about the local biodiversity and understand the importance of conserving ecosystems.
While the technical and veterinary evaluations progress, the provincial authorities continue working to define the future of the establishment, with the aim that conservation, animal welfare, and environmental education become the central pillars of this new stage for Montecarlo.
