Missions: Community cleaning and awareness days called to restore the San Pedro stream

In the face of the concerning deterioration of the **San Pedro stream (Missions)**, the main source of [raw water that is later purified](https://noticiasambientales.com/ciencia/crearon-un-sistema-para-obtener-agua-potable-del-aire-hasta-14-litros-por-dia/) to supply thousands of homes, **community cleaning and environmental awareness days** will be launched.

The initiative arises from the recent **San Pedro Stream Basin Committee**. A space composed of **civil organizations, foundations, technicians, and municipal authorities** that has been working for months on the conservation of the stream and its ecosystem.

An initial survey identified an **alarming [accumulation of solid waste](https://noticiasambientales.com/residuos/san-miguel-de-tucuman-convierte-los-residuos-solidos-en-ladrillos/)** on the banks of the stream, especially in the section that crosses the urban area.

## Cleaning and proximity days with the neighborhoods
The days will have a dual approach:
– One team will focus on **manual waste collection** on the stream and its banks
– Another group will work on **environmental education house by house**, raising awareness about the importance of **not littering in public places**, as it ultimately ends up in the water

Additionally, the installation of an **Eco Point** is planned in one of the community areas of **Santa Rosa or Irrazábal neighborhoods**. This is to facilitate the collection of recyclable materials and reduce informal disposal.

## Water, health, and territory: a shared priority
The proposal was **approved by the Deliberative Council** and will be implemented in the coming days, given the urgency of **recovering this key ecosystem for the water and environmental health of the municipality**.

The Basin Committee insists that **protecting the stream requires citizen commitment, technical planning, and sustained actions over time**. These days represent a first step to **reconnect the community with its water source** and reduce the risks associated with pollution from urban waste.
