San Vicente Municipality Rules Out Arsenic Risk in Water After Study

The Municipality of San Vicente reported that recent laboratory analyses ruled out the presence of arsenic at risky levels in the district’s water.

Thus, they confirmed that the resource is completely suitable for human consumption in the three localities that comprise it.

On October 28, the laboratory Cromaquín S.R.L. delivered the results of sampling conducted at different points in Domselaar, Alejandro Korn, and San Vicente.

The analyses evaluated physical-chemical and bacteriological parameters established by the Argentine Food Code (CAA).

As a result, it was conclusively determined that “the water is suitable for human consumption”.

Among the various parameters analyzed, the arsenic level showed a value below 0.01 mg/L (milligrams per liter).

This is below the maximum limit allowed by national and international regulations.

What do the regulations say about arsenic in water?

The maximum level of arsenic allowed in drinking water to be considered safe is 10 µg/L (micrograms per liter) or 0.010 mg/L (milligrams per liter).

This standard was established by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and adopted by Argentina through the Argentine Food Code.

Global water crisis: what causes it and why it is more serious than previously thought.

In the province of Buenos Aires, the Supreme Court confirmed that the arsenic value in human consumption water must not exceed 10 micrograms per liter.

The values recorded in San Vicente are well below this threshold, ensuring the safety of the water for the entire population.

The context: information that raised concerns about arsenic in the water in San Vicente

The dissemination of this information arises in response to publications on various portals.

These warned about the alleged presence of arsenic beyond acceptable levels in the water of some municipalities in the province of Buenos Aires, among which San Vicente was mentioned.

In response to this situation, the municipal Health Secretariat, led by Dr. Gonzalo Mechura, decided to conduct specific studies.

Following this, the results are communicated to the community to provide reassurance to residents.

After the analysis, the Municipality of San Vicente emphasized that there is no health risk related to arsenic in the district’s water.

The official studies strongly support this assertion, so the water consumed by the population meets all quality standards required by national and international health authorities.

The three localities of the district —Domselaar, Alejandro Korn, and San Vicente— have safe and suitable water for consumption, without any restrictions.
