Tandil: A new environmental park inaugurated in the Sierra del Tigre Natural Reserve.

Tandil closes the year with a mega investment for a new protected area. They inaugurated the Environmental Park in the Sierra del Tigre Natural Reserve.

The project, developed over the past few months, allowed for the refunctionalization and readjustment of this traditional city space. The works were carried out by the Tandil Municipality and the Province of Buenos Aires, together with the cooperative.

The new environmental park in Tandil, presented on Sunday, will allow for the consolidation and deepening of the conservation and research work being carried out.

Furthermore, it will facilitate the access of local residents to this space, which features a unique natural environment where the preservation of native flora and fauna is a priority.

The inaugural event was led by the mayor Miguel Lunghi, the province’s Minister of Environment, Daniela Vilar, the President of the Sierra del Tigre Natural Reserve Cooperative, Miriam Ward Pollero, and National Deputy Rogelio Iparraguirre.

Following the traditional ribbon cutting at the Reserve’s entrance, a natural classroom was inaugurated, where various educational activities will be organized.

“The purpose of the Association is to ensure the use of the Reserve for scientific purposes and to take care of the site’s administration,” Ward Pollero stated.

“The committee works on a non-profit basis because ticket revenues only cover insurance, but the Municipality has always supported us, providing human and material resources essential for its proper functioning,” she added.

The project was proposed by National Deputy Rogelio Iparraguirre and represented an investment of over $15 million. “With this Park, the goal is to enhance the value of this emblematic green space, protect its biodiversity, and expand educational initiatives for the local community,” he expressed.

The value of environmental parks

“The fundamental value for the environment of our country, and our province. This place is wonderful in terms of natural common goods and ecosystem services,” Minister Vilar pointed out.

She also emphasized that in environmental parks they seek to co-build environmental awareness, which is why the transformation of the natural classroom into a meeting and learning space, with Unicen playing an important role through its research conducted in the Reserve.
